A Brief History and Philosophy

Our company started out as Pacific Mortgage Corporation. Its sole business was brokering mortgages. As a mortgage company its goal was always to provide a full range of services to its clients. Along with its main business of mortgage brokering it added a variety of related services. It provided bridging loans, down payment loans, small loans to pay property taxes, personal, unsecured loans, car loans, advice on re-building bad credit, advice and help with selling and buying property, writing up purchase and sales contracts, property appraisal and a host of other related services. Pacific Mortgage was never a company that offered just one service. It was always about offering a full range of services. Pacific Mortgage was unique in the variety of services it provided to its clients. We are not aware of any other Mortgage Brokerage in the Vancouver area that provided its clients with as many services as Pacific Mortgage did. The president is a licensed mortgage broker, realtor and has completed all the course requirements for obtaining his Canadian Residential Appraisal Certificate, and as such, the company was able to offer its clients a variety of services from all the relevant fields.

In the process of doing its business Pacific Mortgage purchased choice residential properties as they came up for sale. Over time its brokering and the lending activity decreased as the company purchased more properties. By 2017 lending and mortgages became secondary to owning properties.

Yet, in spite of the change of focus, the company remained, as it always was, a service company. At its heart, the company's goal is to provide a variety of related services to its clients. Although the focus has changed from mortgages to properties, the company’s DNA remains the same – service. It does not envision itself as a landlord and the occupants as tenants. The company sees itself as providing a service to its guests.

The company’s aim is to make the services an integral part of its operation. Its main goal and its main reason for existence is to provide a service to its clients that no other company is providing. And in offering hotel services to long-term residential guests it is challenging the standard view of what a hotel is .

At first glance, it would seem that the company is merely a landlord renting out its own properties to tenants. However, this is clearly not the case as evidenced by the number of services it offers to its guests. The company has found a niche and is providing a service that no other company in the city is providing. It is operating in a similar way to a hotel but it caters to guests who are staying longer than usual. The only difference between it and a standard hotel is the location of its units. A standard hotel has all its units in one large building; our company has its units scattered across the city. Perhaps a good description of the company would be as a “Scattered Hotel” since it has its units scattered across the city.

A hotel that does not provide any services would be nothing more than a rental apartment building. Our company, without any of the services it provides, would be nothing more than what it appears at first glance - a rental company. A hotel is a hotel because of the services it provides. And our company can be considered a "Scattered Hotel" because of the services it provides and because its units are scattered across the city.

In 2020 it changed its name back to its BC Number and began operating as Extended Stay BC to reflect the change in operation. Since Pacific Mortgage’s history was always a service company, by late 2017 it once again started to reimagine itself into a different kind of service company. It was never content to merely provide rental housing. From the start, its goal was to offer clients an alternative to standard hotels. An alternative that would allow a guest to live in a regular home and at the same time receive all the services they normally would receive had they stayed in a standard hotel. It was an unproven concept but after several years of trial and error we finally arrived at a model that works.

Once again, this is a unique approach. We are currently unaware of any other company operating in the manner that our company is operating. The number of services that is currently provided to our guests exceeds the service a guest would receive in many hotels in the city.

At the start of our operation, the services we provided were very basic, but as we became more confident in our ability to provide quality service, we gradually increased the number of services we provide to all our guest. We are now able to provide a full range of services that is comparable and exceeds the number of services offered at most hotels in the Vancouver area.  It is because of the services we provide that we are able to attract repeat guests.

Management is always looking into ways of increasing our list of services, with the latest addition being a private pool in one of our properties that is available to all guests.
